Every year I create a piece for the American Jewelry Design Council’s annual design project. The theme of last year’s project was “Secret Garden.” As I was thinking about a design for it, I started thinking about how everyone was at home in lockdown, how we had the time to look inside ourselves and had to find some peace in that. I was also thinking about tree-inspired pieces I’ve created in the past, and I wanted to create one for this project—but this time I would specifically focus on creating a night-blooming tree. It’s quiet and peaceful at night, and everyone is at home. It gives you the time to reflect. Night is a spiritual retreat for yourself.
