Based on the original recipe for Prips Flux, Smart Flux is a re-engineered formula designed to prevent firescale by providing consistent firecoat protection. Suitable for use when soldering gold, sterling silver, and all nonferrous metals (including nickel silver), the flux should be applied in an even layer; perfect application will result in an even white coating on the entire workpiece. The coated piece should then be heated until the flux dries evenly; when overheated, the flux will turn gold or brown. Fluoride-free, the solution is available by the quart or gallon.
