If you wake up and go to sleep to the beat-beat-beat of change, it’s the sound of technology innovation once again transforming manufacturing. Smart manufacturing, with its emphasis on automation, data analytics, and connectivity, is introducing what many are referring to as a new industrial revolution and encouraging manufacturers across industries to consider reshoring at least some operations. While casting isn’t as amenable to automation as other types of manufacturing (though opportunities exist here as well), the adoption of smart technologies can still help casting manufacturers improve quality control, increase efficiency, and become more competitive.
