Visual clues can point to a diamond's origins but they're still no substitute for screening

Spend enough time on the internet and you’re bound to stumble across some self-proclaimed jewelry experts sharing their “guaranteed” methods for differentiating natural diamonds from their lab-grown counterparts. You don’t need an expensive screening or testing device, they say; just roll the stone in some mineral oil and see if it floats in water during a full moon.
