Tiny Tube Punches
How to make your own set of tapered steel punches for riveting
By Helen I. Driggs
Rivets take center stage in most of my work, and hollow—or tube—rivets are tremendously useful cold connections for stone-on-stone pieces, hollow hinge pins, or any other open-centered cold connection. I often use hollow rivets for their decorative potential too, because they finish off the raw edges of a drilled hole so neatly. Because I rivet a lot, I created this set of tapered steel punches for the 3/32-inch (and smaller) diameter tubing I use most often.
