MJSA Design Challenge 2023: A Second Chapter

4: Andres Cardenas-Whorton

When I read Tracy’s story and about all the changes she’s going through, I felt the need to create a piece that would be more than just jewelry. I wanted to design something that she could wear daily as a protection amulet. It only made sense to create a pendant, as they are the most intimate and personal type of jewelry since they are worn against the body and near the heart. You can wear it outside your clothes and show the world the piece, or you can keep it close against your body under your clothes, keeping it as a secret from the world. This pendant would serve as a symbol of Tracy’s personal journey that she could choose to share with the world or keep close and personal.
